INDRAJAL COMICS' MANDRAKE WEBSITE

Welcome!  This site is dedicated to the thousands of kids in India who grew up in the 1970s and '80s reading the Mandrake and Phantom comics published by Indrajal Comics.  Many a pleasant hour was spent with an Indrajal comic in hand.

The aim of this website is to provide story summaries for every Indrajal Mandrake comic ever published, along with a representative page scan from each such comic.  It is an ambitious aim considering that I did not bother to preserve my copies of these comics; I now have only about 30 of the 170-and-odd titles published.  Therefore, this website has to be a collaborative effort - a sort of Wikipedia for Mandrake comics.  Please contribute story summaries and scans of the cover page and a sample page from the comic that you are reviewing.  If you cannot send in page scans, you may send me photocopies - these do not have to be colour copies.  Write to me for my mailing address.

Once again, please send me Mandrake Story Summaries.  Until the last Mandrake comic has been reviewed, this website will be "Under Construction".

ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Where can one buy Indrajal Mandrake or Phantom Comics?

They are out-of-print.  And sorry, I do not have any spare copies!  Your best bet would be to persuade lending libraries in India to part with their Indrajal comics.

2. Can you scan these comics and include them on this website?

Scanning is a lot of work, but that is not the limiting factor.  A scanned comic occupies perhaps 50 Megabytes of web storage space.  Because of bandwidth limitations on a website such as this one, storing a scanned comic on this website is not a practical idea.  And then there are the legal objections, i.e., copyright law.

3. Can we persuade Times of India/Bennett and Coleman to re-print these comics?

Now, that is a good idea.  The only way to make that happen is to convince the publisher that all such reprints will have good sales.  In order to convince the publisher, one needs to collect e-mails/signatures from a critical mass of potential buyers.  I have received about 20 such e-mails in the last 2 years or so from fellow-fans and this website has had about 1200 hits in 2 years.  I will try to include in this website a sign-up sheet which can be presented to the publisher.  My web-programming skills are not the best, so I will have to learn how to create such a web-page.  I will try to do this in the coming weeks.
